Acne occurs when pores (hair follicles) get clogged with oil, dirt and dead skin cells and bacteria may develop. Although it is common in teenagers, acne can afflict anyone at any age. Lifestyle changes, such as daily exercise (to keep pores open and clear) and maintaining a healthy diet can help keep skin healthy and acne free. In addition, within this article are 8 home remedies for acne treatment.
Honey is both a natural moisturizer and an antiseptic. When using honey as a home acne treatment, it is important to purchase natural and pure honey (not a proceeded brand). Apply a think, even layer over your entire face and allow it to set about 20 minutes and then wash your face with warm water (followed by cool water). Pure honey helps to destroy the bacteria that cause acne.
Grapes are wonderful as a dietary treat and are high in Vitamin C, but they also work great as a home remedy to treat acne. Take a few (fresh and chilled) grapes and cut each in half, then rub the grape flesh directly over the affected area. After about 15 minutes, wash your face with cold water.
Garlic has many healthy properties, and when used as a homemade acne treatment you must crush the cloves to create a paste and apply directly to your skin that has acne. Another option would be to boil about 4 cloves in one pint of water, when the water has reduced (by half), dip a clean cloth or cotton ball into the solution and apply to acne.
4. Egg White Wash
Egg whites not only unclog the pores, but may also reduce the redness that accompanies acne breakouts. Before bedtime, apply the egg white wash to your face (and other affected areas) and wash your face in the morning. It is important to keep this “facial” away from your eyes and mouth.
5. Olive Oil
Olive oil is a natural skin softener, does not clog pores and has been used for generations to maintain healthy skin.
During your nighttime ritual, use toothpaste to not only clean your teeth, but also as an easy and effective home remedy to treat acne. Take a dab of toothpaste and apply it directly to a pimple and leave it on until morning. The toothpaste will dry out the acne and reduce any swelling
7. Cucumber / Yogurt Facial Mask
Blend a small cucumber to a paste like texture and mix with one teaspoon of plain (high quality) yogurt. Apply this homemade facial mask to the skin affected with acne and leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes and then wash it completed off.
8. Oatmeal Facial
An oatmeal facial is not only soothing, but is effective in clearing acne. Simply mix 2 teaspoons of oatmeal, 1 teaspoon baking soda and water (enough to create a paste-like texture). Rub this mixture onto your face and then rinse off.
